Apple Picking LO

This layout uses more of the Holly Jolly Christmas paper from Fancy Pants. I did this one at the scrapbook cabin and got a chance to use the new Janome Mini Sewing Machine. LOVE IT!!! It sews so straight that it was difficult to do the "messy" sewing in this layout.

Take a Hike

This two page layout features Kaisercraft's "What a Hoot" collection, as well as their pearls, rhinestones, flowers, and clear stamps. I 'fussy cut' the tree and owl out and then hand sewed around the branches and leaves to add texture. I also added dimension by using foam squares. I did some machine sewing around the large photo to create a frame, as well as on the seam of the papers. The title was cut out of the Kaisercraft's Brood paper using a custom font from my SCAL software on my Cricut. The tags, little owls, and scallops were cut out of the Owlish paper, while the small trees were cut out of the Brood paper. Journalling was along the top of the photos as well as in the journalling box. detail of the hand sewing....

Ballet LO

Here's another layout made from the fabulous Ballet Kit from the Coconut ScrapShop. I also used some Adorn-It sticker paper in my Cricut to create the notebook journalling page. I added a transparency over the photos and also used Stickles on the word "ballet" for an added effect.

Paste Embossing Tutorial

This tutorial is to demonstrate how to do paste embossing. Paste embossing gives a new use for all those brass stencils that are normally used for dry embossing. For this demo, I used Dreamweaver Stencils Translucent Embossing Paste. ETA: I cannot find this paste in stores like Michaels or Joanns...I got mine at a scrapbooking/stamping expo. Your local scrapbook store may carry it or you can also order from Dreamweaver.

1. Select your favorite brass stencil. Tape the edges securely to your paper with tape that is easily removable. Make sure you are working on a flat, sturdy, even surface. 2. Color in the stencil. You can use chalks, markers, ink, colored pencils...basically anything you want. In this photo, I'm using chalk (and I'm left handed!! LOL). 3. Put a bead of embossing paste onto the tip of a spatula. If desired, you can even mix in some iridescent powders or metallic liquid acrylic paints to the paste. (Add approximately 1/2 tsp. paint or powder to 2Tbsp. paste.)
4. Spread the embossing paste evenly over the stencil as if you are frosting a cake. The paste will fill in all the open spots in the stencil. Repeat until all the holes are filled in. Make sure you work quickly, as it starts to set up in 20 minutes.5. Carefully remove 3 sides of the the tape so that you can lift up the stencil like a hinge. This will help preserve the embossed image. Once the "hinge" is open, you can remove the remainder of the tape. Clean the stencil immediately with warm water and an old toothbrush so that the paste doesn't dry on the surface.
6. If desired, you can now sprinkle on some glitter. Move the paper around so that the glitter is evenly distributed. Discard the extra glitter. (Without the glitter, it will try into a glossy finish).
7. Let dry overnight. Your final product is a colorful 3-D image!

Kaisercraft Victorian Tag Album: "Ready. Set. Grow."

I've been working hard on this Kaisercraft Victorian Tag Album lately!! I've titled it "Ready. Set. Grow." It documents Payton's growth from 3 months to 3.5 years. I used Kaisercraft papers, stamps, rhinestones, wood florishes, pearls, flowers, and rub-ons. I also utilized my SCAL software on the Cricut to cut extra flourishes and embellishments. I used about 300 glue dots on this project!!!
I absolutely LOVE Kaisercraft - their products are so easy and fun to work with!!!!

Coconutty Contest with a wonderful prize package!!!

My Coconutty Contest (sponsored by the Coconut ScrapShop) is to create a scrapbook page, card, papercraft, or altered item with DISTRESSING on it!!! You can distress by using a nail file, sandpaper, razor, distress inks....whatever you like. The idea is to add that "aged" look to your project. Post your creation to your blog or gallery or email me the photo to be entered into a random drawing.

The winner will receive the must-have BasicGrey Precision Filing Set AND a collection of Tim Holtz Distressables Paper!!! If you can't wait and want that filing set right now, you can go to Coconut ScrapShop and buy it for only $5.96 (let Jen know that Cheryl sent you)!!! If you purchase the set and are the winner, the price will be refunded to you!!! This contest will run from April 3-14.
Here is my sample layout. I used sandpaper to distress the chipboard letters and I also inked the edges of my torn tags. By the way, the tab on the photo is cut from ribbon using Ribbon Stiff (I'll do another tutorial on that in the future).

Mini tutorial for those that haven't distressed items before:

This is what the chipboard letters looked like before distressing:
Here I just brush the surface of the letter with sandpaper.
The final product....see how the dots and edges look worn?

I can't wait to see your creations!!
